Port Phillip Pioneers Group

Pioneer Ancestors & Early Settlement History

The Port Phillip Pioneers Group is dedicated to preserving the history of Port Phillip pioneers and documenting the lives of those Port Phillip ancestors who shaped the region. Our work explores Port Phillip’s foundation and the story of Port Phillip’s early settlement, connecting present generations with their historical roots.

We recognise that there were perhaps 60,000 people here before Europeans and others arrived from 1803. We acknowledge the Boon wurrung and Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as Traditional Owners of the land on which we meet. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present.

Port Phillip Pioneers

The Port Phillip pioneers were among the first to establish communities in the district, contributing to its growth through resilience, enterprise, and determination. Their stories form an essential part of the region’s historical identity.

Port Phillip Pioneer Ancestors

For many families, the journey begins with discovering Port Phillip ancestors. By preserving historical records and sharing genealogical resources, we help connect present generations with their heritage.

Port Phillip’s Foundation

The foundation of the Port Phillip district represents the formative beginnings of structured settlement in the region. This period laid the groundwork for the development of communities, governance, and cultural identity.

Port Phillip Early Settlement

The era of Port Phillip early settlement reflects both the challenges and achievements of those who lived through this defining time. From daily life to broader historical events, these stories provide valuable insight into the region’s development.
