Royal Historical Society of Victoria, 239A’Beckett Street, Melbourne.
The Royal Historical Society of Victoria ( RHSV ) was formed in 1909.
Their Collections include:
- The Pioneer Register, an historical register that was set up after survey letters were written to find out about people coming to Australia. The Society got a great response. Respondents sometimes told about children who didn’t come and what their history has been.
- A huge collection of pamphlets for which the contents are Indexed online.
- Also books, pictures, manuscripts, etc.
- Their Manuscript Collection is wonderful.
- Lodge Books are a good source of information.
- All the History Groups’ Newsletters are there – a gold mine of information.
- The Government Gazettes are useful in showing who bought property.
- A huge book containing shipping newspaper cuttings is indexed online.
The “Town and Country” newspaper can be helpful for obituaries that can’t be found elsewhere.
